UNITED COFFEE HOUSE SINCE 1942- A VINTAGE VANITY

The golden letters emblazoned on the old-fashioned wooden plate itself narrates the rich, regal and royal legacy of the Delhi’s first western-style café – United Coffee House aka UCH. Among all of Delhi’s vintage restaurants, the United Coffee House (UCH) in E- Block Connaught Place has stood out with its art deco interiors, 23-ft-high ceiling, Harry Winston tapestry and the sprawling Viennese chandelier.

Being an eternal lover of this beauty, I am always awestruck to see how beautifully this the place is running parallel to modern time in the face of keeping its old-world charm alive. The moment concierge sophisticatedly opens the ornamented wooden door for you and you get to experience the stunning floral designs on the walls, huge Venetian chandeliers hanging from the roof, a vintage-looking bar, and soft piano music playing in the background, this place will warm your heart with its old-style charm.

United Coffee House is more than 75 years young now, once opened by the visionary philanthropist Lala Hans Raj Kalra at a spot where there stood a grocery store catering to the families of the men who presided over the steel frame of the British Raj. Since then it has been surprising and exhilarating generations with its profligate variety of food items like around 150- 200 dishes all the time. They have a lot on their plate – homemade food, Anglo Indian food to continental food, Asian, Mexican, Lebanese, and of course, Indian.

I visit this place recurrently and every time I get flabbergasted with the assortment of food and drinks. Yesterday I ordered this dry fruit samosa which was colossal in size and had a perfect symphony of finely chopped potatoes and lavish dry fruits. Even their keema samosa is blissful but regrettably, keema samosa was not available yesterday evening. Hence, I had to choose dry fruit samosa and it was worth eating. Although, it’s not a pocket-friendly affair, as they say, “Every good thing comes with a Price”. You will unquestionably not regret visiting this place with your family or friends or both. Even you can plan your official meets or may take any of your pals across the world that should see the iconic and opulent heritage of this place commonly known as United Coffee House.

During this unlock period, if you are craving for an insta worthy place, then this place is a MUST VISIT.
